Welcome to the Charing Pharmacy. Our Pharmacy is one of the first in the country to install automated robotic dispensing equipment to ensure accurate and fast provision of patients’ medication and an automated dispensing point outside the pharmacy for patients’ convenience.
Charing Pharmacy which opened with the new building operates under the name of Charing Practice Limited and the directors and shareholders are Dr R Dunnet, Dr S Naganathar, Dr R Knottenbelt and Dr C Norwood.
Our pharmacy is led by our pharmacy superintendent, Mr. Uma Gajendran. We have all the necessary services you would expect to find from a pharmacy. We also stock a comprehensive range of over-the-counter medications, a range of toiletries and other chemists’ sundries.
Please note that we do not take repeat prescription requests by telephone or email in order to avoid errors. Most of our repeat prescribing is computerised. You will be issued with a printed slip listing the medicines that the doctor is happy for you to take without being seen again. If the slip is handed or posted to the surgery, the prescription will normally be ready for collection after four working days. However, the doctor will still wish to see you at intervals to monitor your progress and modify your treatment as necessary.
Alternatively, you can order your repeat prescription online via Patient Access or NHS app and can come and collect them at your convenience. To find out how to register for Patient Access, please speak to the surgery reception team who will be able to register you for the service.
In addition to managing your medications, we offer a range of services.
Community Pharmacist Consultation Service (CPCS)
Under CPCS, we take referrals from general practices, from NHS 111 (and NHS 111 online for requests for urgent supply), Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), and in some cases, patients referred via the 999 service. Under this scheme, we deal with patients who have minor illnesses or need an urgent supply of medicine.
We do offer a twice-weekly delivery service to those patients who are housebound. These patients should live inside our practice boundary to be eligible. The eligible patients will receive their repeat medication delivered once a month. Please speak to one of the pharmacy team for more details.
Medicines use review
Patients taking medications for a long-term condition can have a medicines use review which involves a consultation with the pharmacist to discuss their medications. It gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about how and why you should be taking your medicines and any problems or side effects this is causing.
New Medicines Service
The new medicine service in our pharmacy focuses on patients with long-term conditions that have been prescribed new medicines. We offer advice and support with your new medications.
Smoking Cessation Clinic
We offer support and advice to patients who want to stop smoking. Where necessary, our staff can identify the most suitable nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) for our customers.
Weight management programme
We offer a weight management programme where you can get advice and support from our specially trained staff that includes regular monitoring and is tailored for each individual.
Hypertension Case Finding Service
We offer a hypertension (high blood pressure) case-finding service, which is a FREE service, where the pharmacist will measure your blood pressure and advise on appropriate action to take or offer a 24-hour BP monitoring facility to further understand your blood pressure and refer you to your GP for further management.
Out-of-hours collection point
We have installed an automated dispensing point, that will enable you to collect your prescriptions during pharmacy opening hours as well as outside of pharmacy opening hours, for eligible patients and for eligible medications (some medications like controlled drugs, liquid medications and refrigerated items cannot be collected). This will improve convenience for patients who are unable to visit the pharmacy during opening hours or less able to visit the pharmacy. Click here for more information
