Prescriptions
Medicines worth £1 Million are wasted every year
in Kent. And that's money that could be spent on other medicines
and NHS services.
Why
are medicines wasted?
Once medicines are dispensed but you no longer need them,
they cannot be re-used and must be thrown away.
The average cost of one month's supply is £10 per medicine.
So, if the prescriptions are for longer than two months, the
waste will be higher if treatment changes or is stopped.
What
can we do about it?
Most doctors are prescribing medicines for only one
or two months at a time - unless they are absolutely sure
that you will need them for longer.
This avoids waste when treatment changes or stops.
