About Charing Pharmacy

The pharmacy was established in 1997 in purpose-built premises within the Charing Surgery. Our aim is to provide you, our customers, with a first-class pharmacy service to compliment the GP and other services both within and outside the practice. We work in close co-operation with other health professionals including; GPs, Practice & District Nurses, Chiropodists, Dentists and alternative Health Practitioners.

Our Staff
Many of our staff have worked to provide a dispensing service locally for a number of years and may be known to you personally. All staff have either completed or are undergoing, under the supervision of the pharmacist, a recognised pharmacy training course. We pride ourselves on the service we provide and believe that, by a process of continual education, we can offer you a customer-based service, tailored to local needs, satisfying all your pharmaceutical requirements.

PHARMACISTS are members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. They are trained as experts in drugs and every prescription issued from the pharmacy will have been prepared, either by, or under, the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist. In addition, pharmacists can advise you on a range of minor illnesses and advise you when you should seek further treatment from your GP.

In many cases, you can treat minor conditions with medicines available over the counter, many of which can only be sold through pharmacies and our pharmacist will be pleased to advise you. Pharmacists are also trained to monitor drug doses and look for possible interactions between drugs issued, both on prescription, or bought over the counter, including many health food supplements.

IF IN DOUBT ALWAYS ASK YOUR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE.

Additional Services

Pregnancy Testing
Home test kits are available from the pharmacy.

Repeat Prescriptions
We operate a repeat prescription service which may well mean that you can collect your repeat prescription directly from the pharmacy. Ask our staff for details.

Unwanted Medicines
Always return all unwanted medicines to your local pharmacy. Do not put them down the sink, the loo or in the dustbin.
Medicines are not ordinary products and need to be .safely destroyed. Never, ever, give a medicine prescribed for you to another person, even if you think that they have the same condition as yourself. Many illnesses show similar symptoms and only your doctor can accurately diagnose serious illnesses. Remember that many child poisonings are caused by hoarded drugs.
ALWAYS RETURN YOUR UNWANTED MEDICINES TO YOUR LOCAL PHARMACY.

Ostomy Supplies
We are able to supply a wide range of ostomy supplies. Please ask us if you require specific items to be stocked for you.

Complaints
We aim to provide you with a service based on excellence as standard. If you feel we have not achieved our aim please speak to our pharmacist who will try to deal with your concerns. If, after doing so, you are still unhappy, please write to our Superintendent Pharmacist, c/o Charing Surgery, who will thoroughly and independently investigate your complaint. Our complaints procedure is part of the NHS system for dealing with complaints and does not affect your right to approach the local FHSA if you are dissatisfied with the results of our investigation.

Help Us
If you have any suggestions as to how we can improve our service to you, PLEASE TELL US. We really are committed to providing you with a service of which we are proud and, of which, you will tell your friends.

Dispensary
We can dispense both NHS and private prescriptions and keep a wide range of medicines, including the latest remedies. We keep a record of items dispensed, enabling us to ensure that your current medication is compatible with other medication dispensed by us, or any that you wish to purchase from our pharmacy. Remember: IF IN DOUBT, ASK YOUR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE.

Medicine Containers
We dispense all our medicines in child-resistant containers. This does not mean ‘Child-proof’, so always keep all medicines in a locked, dry, cool place well out of the reach of children. Bathrooms are not ideal because they are a damp environment. We recommend a locked drawer in a bedroom to which children have no access. Some items may require refrigeration, in which case we will advise you.

Emergency Prescription Supplies
We may be able to help you if you need an emergency supply of a medicine which you have had before from a doctor when it is impossible for you to obtain a prescription in time. We can, however, only do this in cases of genuine emergency. Your pharmacist will advise.

Handicapped Living
We can provide a wide range of products aimed at making everyday living easier. We can supply incontinence pads, commodes, wheelchairs, high-seat chairs, anti-pressure products, toilet, kitchen, bath and eating aids. Please ask our pharmacy staff who will be pleased to show you the full range of available products.

Holiday Requirements
If you are going on holiday, we can advise and provide you with all your requirements to avoid sunburn, upset tummy, malaria and other holiday risks. We can also advise on sensible precautions.

Self-Help
Come in and help yourself to our Health Education leaflets. They are always on display and regularly updated, so make a point of looking for new ones each month!

Medicine Sales
Our pharmacist and trained staff will be able to advise you on the appropriate treatment for many minor ailments and refer you to your doctor if necessary. We stock a wide range of medicines, many of which can only be purchased from pharmacies. We consider your well-being as paramount and, should we consider that it is not advisable for you to self-medicate, we will tell you and guide you to the most suitable treatment we consider appropriate.

Reading glasses and contact lens supplies
We have a range of optical quality reading glasses at very reasonable prices for you to chose from. Our pharmacy staff will be pleased to help you select the pair which satisfies your needs. We suggest that, if you have previously purchased glasses through an optician, you should bring us your prescription, if available, to help us ensure you can safely buy a pair from our range. We also stock a wide range of contact lens solutions and suggest that you purchase the brand recommended by your optician.

First Aid Supplies
We supply many first-aid products that comply with Health & Safety regulations. In addition, we can supply specialist products, such as blue detectable plasters for use in the hotel and other industries. If you require personal service, please ask our staff.

Nebulisers
Nebulisers are of value in treating asthma and other breathing problems but are not available on the NHS, although the medicines to use in them can be obtained through your GP. We can supply you with a suitable nebuliser and advise you on its use, so please ask us. We may be able to arrange to obtain a private prescription for you which will allow you an additional saving on the cost. Please ask us.

Incontinence Supplies
We can advise you in confidence about helpful products including pads, pants, mattress covers, sheets, wipes and any other products you may need. Remember, we are here to help and will do all we can to make your life easier.
